Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about microlock startup.

A full microlock startup typically takes 4–8 hours depending on hair length, density, and desired loc size. We include a consultation, parting, and careful installation to ensure a uniform foundation—longer appointments for very thick or long hair are common.

Yes—microlock startup adapts to most natural textures. Our stylists assess strength, density, and elasticity to determine appropriate loc size and tension. Very fine or damaged hair may require reinforcement or alternative techniques for optimal results.

Initial maintenance is light: gentle washing every 1–2 weeks, palm-rolling or minimal retwisting as locs mature, and moisturizing the scalp with light oils. Schedule professional follow-ups at 4–8 week intervals during the first year to set a solid foundation.

When properly installed with appropriate tension and sectioning, microlocks minimize breakage and scalp stress. Our stylists tailor part sizes and tension to your hair’s strength. Improper technique or excessive tightness, however, can increase risk.

You can gently wash your microlocks 24–48 hours after installation using a residue-free shampoo. Avoid heavy manipulation for the first few weeks. Light styling is fine, but allow locs to settle before frequent retwisting or tight styles.

Converting larger locs into microlocks usually requires reclaiming or a full reinstallation and may not be completed in a single session. We’ll evaluate your hair and discuss options—repartitioning or a restart may be recommended for true microloc sizing.
